Ai can freak you out if you let it. It's kinda scary to think where it might take the world in a very short time. Indeed, where it already has taken the world in a very short time. But at the same time, it's kinda mindblowingly cool what it is capable of...
Most years I hand paint a birthday card for Jim, whom I often call BiFF which is a name derived from BFF - Best Friend Forever. I remember telling him shortly after cancer took both his wife, (my best girlfriend) and my husband in a two year period, "Sucks to be you, Jim, but you have just defaulted to being my BFF." Of course I had no idea what life would bring our way.
This year, being a significant milestone birthday, I opted to create a digital video card for him instead of painting one.
I've been using software for many years to create slideshows but this was a new Ai learning curve for me to create my own custom song for the video.
I am so not musical. But this was a super fun project, figuring ways to get Ai to create what I had in mind, tweak it, re-tweak it, ditch it, start again, and again, and again. I think I went through 48 versions before I settled on one that felt like us.
It's mindblowingly cool that I wrote words (I can't even stretch it to say they were "lyrics") in the most random 'free verse' not rhyming, no rhythm, unequal stanzas, mismatched sentence structure kinda way, and a computer composed them into a song and sang them back to me.
It's been about a month since I first heard our song and my mind is still blown.
Oh, I know it will never win a Grammy, and musical people will probably shudder, and at points it still sounds Ai-ish, but people, I CREATED A SONG!! For my BiFF.
